Trigger points are localised hypersensitive nodules or tight bands that develop in the muscles and fascia of the body. They are a source of pain and make muscles feel tight , restricting range of movement.
Trigger points will also prevent the muscle working as well as it should so can cause the muscle to feel weak.
It is thought that Trigger points form from repetitive stresses and strains on the body.
This can occur with repetitive movements such as running, holding the same position for long periods of time such as sitting at a Computor and following trauma to the body’s tissues.
These repetitive stresses and strains tightens the muscles and fascia.Blood flow is also restricted which tightens these tissues further. If the tissue is tight it hurts and the body then learns to avoid this movement or position because of the pain and tissues get even tighter. This sequence of events can lead to a trigger point/points developing.
Our therapists use manual techniques, acupuncture and cupping to release these tight painful areas to reduce pain and improve range of movement.
